NECC Women's Basketball Athletes of the Week #11

Player of the Week  

 

Jaymesha Sanders (So., F), Newbury College

Sophomore Jaymesha Sanders (West Haven, Conn.) had an outstanding week for Newbury, as the Nighthawks finished 2-1 in three NECC contests. The highlight of the week was her 38-point performance in a 79-60 victory over Elms. In what may have been the last home game in program history, Sanders broke the program record for points, going 16-for-26 from the floor to rack up her 38 points. On the week, Sanders posted three consecutive double-doubles, averaging 24.3 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.

 

Rookie of the Week

 

Makayla Rudder (Fr., G/F), Dean College    

Freshman Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) averaged 24.3 points and 13.0 rebounds, while shooting 48.3 percent from the field, in three games last week. In the Bulldogs win over New England College, Rudder finished with a career-high 34 points, to go along with 13 rebounds and six steals. Then, in a close home loss to Becker, she totaled 18 points and ten rebounds. Finally, in a loss at Elms, she recorded 21 points and 16 rebounds.
