NECC Softball Athletes of the Week- March 2

Player of the Week

Destiny Helmedach (Jr., IF), New England College

Junior Destiny Helmedach (Middlefield, Conn.) led the Pilgrims to a 2-2 record, as she hit .583 with four home runs and seven RBI. Her slugging percentage was 1.625, with an on-base percentage of .556. In her top offensive performance of the week, she hit two home runs against Adrian, as the Pilgrims lost a close 6-5 game.


Pitcher of the Week

Elisabeth Schaffer (Sr., P),  Eastern Nazarene College 

Senior Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) pitched four complete games for the Lions, posting a 2-2 record. The senior pitched 26 innings, striking out 39 batters, and allowed only nine earned runs. In an extra-innings victory over John Carroll, Schaffer allowed only two hits, struck out 14 with no runs allowed. On the week, she posted a 2.42 ERA.


Rookie of the Week


Kacee Hirst (Fr., P), Mitchell College

Freshman Kacee Hirst (Plainfield, Conn.) got the starting nod in all four games for the Mariners last week and posted a 2-2 record with a 2.45 ERA. She tossed a complete game in her collegiate debut and helped her own cause with a two-run, walk-off single in a 6-5 victory over Cabrini. The following day she earned her first career shutout against Rosemont, allowing only three hits while fanning four in a 2-0 win.
