Southern Vermont Continues their Reign as NECC Men's Cross Country Champions

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's cross country championship trophy is headed to Bennington, Vt. for the third-straight year as the Southern Vermont College Mountaineers ran their way to the 2016 league title Saturday morning at Stanley Park.

Four SVC competitors placed themselves in the top five including junior captain Marc Brandmeyer (26:56.25) who came through first once again for his third-consecutive NECC Runner of the Year laurel.

Brandmeyer was joined in taking major Conference accolades by Southern Vermont freshman Davante Smith (27:59.32) and fourth-year SVC head coach Kathleen Newton. Smith earned the 2016 NECC Rookie of the Year honor by finishing third overall and first for rookie runners, and Newton was bestowed with her third-straight NECC Coach of the Year award-- that being determined by voting from her peers around the league.

Joining Brandmeyer and Smith on the All-NECC First Team were sophomore Stephen McCall (27:34.90) and senior Corey Barcomb (28:14.03).

Landing in second in the NECC team standings was Regis College with a total of 48 points. The Pride placed two runners on the All Conference First Team with Shane Romanchick (28:18), and Jovan Sematimba (28:28). Rounding out the First Team honors was Mitchell's Davante Smith who finished with a time of (28:14.54) for fourth place overall.

Many of the team will continue competition at the NCAA New England Regional 8k on November 12th at Stanley Park, in Westfield, Mass.
