MARSHFIELD, MASS. – The Northern Vermont University-Johnson (NVU-Johnson) men’s volleyball team has been awarded associate membership to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), as announced jointly today by the conference and NVU-Johnson Associate Dean of Athletics Jamey Ventura. The Badgers will compete as a member of the NECC beginning in the 2019-2020 season.
"Northern Vermont University-Johnson is grateful to the New England Collegiate Conference for accepting us as an associate member in the sport of men’s volleyball,” said Ventura. “We believe the conference will be an excellent fit for our program and look forward to competing with the many great teams of the NECC in 2019-2020.”
2018-19 is the 10th year of existence for the NECC, and the conference has sponsored men’s volleyball throughout. Commissioner Katie Hartman-Boldvich looks forward to continuing the growth of the sport.
“The NECC is pleased to welcome NVU-Johnson to the fold in the sport of men's volleyball,” said Hartman-Boldvich. “Growing the membership within this sport and providing additional competitive opportunities for our current programs and student-athletes remains a high priority for the conference. We are excited to work with Jamey Ventura, Coach John and the rest of the Badgers staff for years to come.”
The NECC currently has 10 full-time member schools – Bay Path University, Becker College, Dean College, Eastern Nazarene College, Elms College, Lesley University, Mitchell College, New England College, Newbury College and Southern Vermont College. Northern Vermont-Johnson will become the ninth member of the NECC in men’s volleyball, competing against Dean, Eastern Nazarene, Elms, Lesley, Newbury and Southern Vermont, as well as fellow associate members Endicott College and Nichols College.
The 2018-19 season is the inaugural season for the Badger’s men’s volleyball program, and they will play an independent schedule. Head coach Kevin John is excited for the opportunity to join the league. “We are delighted to be a member of the New England Collegiate Conference and look forward to contributing to the league’s traditions for men's volleyball."
