Elms' Whittle Takes Top NECC Honors for Men's Soccer

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College’s Donald Whittle was tabbed 2016 NECC Men’s Soccer Player of the Year after a breakout season for the Blazers.

Whittle, a junior, finished the season with nine goals and an assist including three of the Blazers game winning goals.

Cooper Hall, from the 2016 NECC Champions of Daniel Webster College earned NECC Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Hall helped the Eagles as they allowed just one goal in conference play this season. The junior goalkeeper finished with a save percentage of .957 in NECC play.

Also earning major honors is Newbury College’s Nilton De Andrade. The freshman was named NECC Rookie of the Year, while leading the Nighthawks offense throughout the season. De Andrade scored 16 goals this season including four in conference play as Newbury made it to the NECC Semifinals this season.

Renato Capobianco received Coach of the Year honors after leading the Regis College Pride to the NECC Championship game and a 10-8-2 overall record. Also being honored from the Pride was junior Emiky Pires, and sophomore Litchie Barbosa.

CJ Dabkowski joined classmate Whittle with NECC honors for Elms College. From the midfield Dabkowski tallied 12 points on three goals and six assists.

Joining Hall on the NECC All Conference First Team for the Eagles were seniors Michael Ottman, Chasen Congreves, and Alex Carvajal. Both Ottman and Congreves were a large part of the Daniel Webster defensive success throughout the season, while Carvajal held a vital spot in the middle of the field.

De Andrade earned NECC All Conference First Team honors along with teammate Prince Boateng. Senior Boateng was also a large part of the Nighthawks success that brought them to the NECC Semifinals.

The final member of the NECC All Conference First Team from Lesley University is Anthony Vitta. Junior Vitta finished 2016 with three goals and four assists for the Lynx.
