Springfield Wins 2018 NECC Golf Championship

WEST BOYLSTON, Mass.- The 2018 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship concluded on Sunday, with Springfield College finishing the weekend with a team score of 615, 39 over-par, to win the title. This is Springfield's third NECC Championship, and its first since 2012. The Pride placed three golfers on the NECC All-Conference team, including the top-two finishers Jake Raichle and Mike Strong. Raichle outdueled his teammate Strong and overcame a one-shot deficit heading into the day to finish atop the leaderboard with a 148.

Elms College overtook Mitchell College for the runner-up spot, shooting a two-day total of 635, 59 over-par. The Blazers were paced by William Marchand, whose second-day round of 74 catapulted him into a fourth-place finish. Teammate Chris Soderberg joined him on the All-Conference team, finishing tied for fifth with a two-day score of 158. 

Mitchell College finished in the third place slot with a team score of 643. The Mariners were led by the 2018 Rookie of the Year, Sam Gaboury. Gaboury finished the weekend with a total score of 158, tops among all rookies, and tied for fifth overall. 

Eastern Nazarene College finished in fourth place, with a team score of 685. Jacob Waldroop fired a 76on Sunday to post a 156 for the weekend and earn an All-Conference berth, as he clinched third place in the individual standings.

Dean College rounded out the field with a team score of 725.
