WEST BOYLSTON, MASS.- Springfield College is in the lead after the first round of the 2018 NECC Golf Championship, played at Wachusett Country Club in West Boylston, Mass. The Pride shot a collective 305, 17 over-par, to head into the second day with a commanding lead over second place team Mitchell College. Springfield boasts four of the top six individual scorers, led by Mike Strong, who shot a 73, and Jake Raichle, who fired a round of 74.
Mitchell finished the day with a team score of 321, 33 over-par. Michael Izzo leads with way for the Mariners with a round of 80, tied for fourth among individual scores. Teammate Nick Knisel is right behind Izzo with an 80, landing him in a three-way tie for seventh place.
Closing out the first round in third place is Elms College, who finished 35 over-par with a 323. Chris Soderberg finds himself in third place at the end of the first round, shooting a round of 76.
Eastern Nazarene College and Dean College round out the field, with team scores of 350 and 382, respectively.
The 2018 NECC Golf Championship will conclude on Sunday, with the first pairing teeing off at 11:00 a.m. For a list of Sunday's tee times and pairings please click here.
