Player of the Week

Mike Pierre (Sr., G), Southern Vermont College

Senior Mike Pierre (Melrose, N.Y.) had strong performances on both sides of the New Year, as he averaged 24.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in Southern Vermont’s three contests since December 18th. The Mountaineers travelled south to compete in the HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami Beach, where Pierre registered 20 points and six boards against a strong SUNY Cortland squad.  Pierre’s strongest game of the week came when he returned to his home gym, where he dropped 47 points in a win against MCLA on January 3, to set a new Mountaineers single-game record. The senior shot 68 percent from the floor (17-25), and fifty percent from behind the arc (4-8).  Pierre’s 47 points is tied for eighth most in NCAA Division III this season. He also made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball, with five thefts, four defensive boards and a block.
