    INDIANAPOLIS – The Mitchell College baseball team is one of 55 squads which will compete in the 2011 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, as announced by the NCAA on Monday. Eighth seeded Mariners will make their NCAA postseason debut against host SUNY Cortland in the New York Regional Bracket.

The program will take place beginning Sunday, June 5-8 in Indianapolis, Ind.

    WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College Ephs defeated the Becker Hawks in the second round of the NCAA tournament today. The win moves the Ephs to 27-2 on the year while the Hawks finish their season at 24-5. With the 84-63 win, the Ephs move on to the Sweet Sixteen.

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced brackets for its upcoming NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship on Monday afternoon, and Elms College has earned the New England Collegiate Conference’s (NECC) first-ever automatic qualifier to return to the dance for the sixth time in seven years. While Becker's 23-4 record earned the Hawks their first-ever at-large bid to the tournament.

    LEICESTER, Mass.-Top Seed Becker College defeated No. 4 Seed Newbury College 84-75 in New England Collegiate Conference semifinal action at Leicester Gymnasium. Four Hawks players finished in double figures. Junior Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn.) had a double double, 22 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes of action. Senior Trae Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD) has 12 points, tying him for second all-time in scoring (1615 points). Elms College senior forward Edgar Martinez (Springfield, Mass.) netted a team-high 21 points to help lift the second-seed Blazers to an 88-73 win over No. 3 Southern Vermont College and advance to its seventh straight conference championship game in Friday evening’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament semifinal game on the campus of Becker College.

While Lance Spratling (Pittsfield, Mass.) averaged 20.5 points helping the Mountaineers to a 1-1 week including an 82-71 victory over Newbury.

The Hawks (22-3 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a perfect 14-0 conference record.

    ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Becker College senior center Trae Jacobs (Lexington Park, Md.) averaged a sizzling 23.3 points helping the Hawks stay undefeated in the NECC with a 12-0 record including a 3-0 conference record for the week. Jacobs hit a milestone for the Hawks registering his 1,500th point this past week. He scored 26 points and added nine rebounds against Southern Vermont. He shot 66% (28-for-42) from the field and 88% (14-for-16) from the charity stripe.

    ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Southern Vermont senior guard Lance Spratling (Pittsfield, Mass.) averaged 29.5 points helping the Mountaineers to a 2-0 week including a 84-82 upset of NECC opponent Elms and a 74-72 victory over fellow conference foe Lesley. Spratling registered 28 points and ten rebounds in the narrow victory over the Blazers, while coming back later in the week to score 31 points in the Lesley victory. He shot 50% (19-for-38) from the field, a smashing 65% (9-for-14) from behind the arc and 67% (12-for-18) from the charity stripe.

    ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Elms College senior forward Juan Alverio (Toa Baja, P.R.) led the Blazers to a 2-0 week including two NECC victories over Wheelock (76-59) and Lesley (77-63). Alverio averaged a double-double for the week with 14.0 points and 17.0 rebounds per game. He turned in back-to-back double-doubles with 17 points and a career-high 20 rebounds along with six blocks against Wheelock, and 11 points and 14 boards against Lesley. For the week, Alverio also added six assists (3.0 assists per game), seven blocks (3.5 blocks per game) and seven steals (3.5 steals per game), while shooting 48% (12-for-25) from the field and 67% (2-for-3) from the line.

    ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Newbury College sophomore forward Peterson Bernard (Boston, Mass.) led the Nighthawks to a 2-0 week including two conference victories over Lesley (75-60) and Mitchell (78-64). Bernard averaged a double double for the week with 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He notched 28 points and nine rebounds on the road at Mitchell. For the week, he shot 62% (16-for-26) from the field and 46% (11-for-24) from the charity stripe.

Spratling averaged 25.7 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game, 5.3 assists per game and 1.3 steals per game. For the week he shot 47.2-percent (29-of-61) from the field, 58-percent (7-of-12) from three-point range, and 63-percent (12-of-19) from the free throw line.

    BENNINGTON, Vt. – Senior guard Lance Spratling reached the 1000-point milestone as he tallied 32 points to lift the Southern Vermont College Mountaineers over New England Collegiate Conference opponent the Mariners of Mitchell College 91-71 Thursday night in the MAC. Spratling came into the game with 980 points and easy passed into the 1000-point club in the second half of what became a four game winning streak for SVC.

    ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Southern Vermont College sophomore guard Derrick Cenicola (Hamilton, N.Y.) led the Mountaineers to an 84-69 victory over NECC opponent Daniel Webster College, scoring 23 points, 18 of which came from three-pointers. With the win, Southern Vermont improved to 2-1 in conference play. Cenicola also averaged 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game. For the week, he shot 44% (7-for-16) from the field, a sizzling 55% (6-for-11) from downtown and 75% (3-for-4) from the charity stripe.

Elms College sophomore guard Brittain Purcelle (Tarrytown, N.Y.) led the Blazers this week including hitting a collegiate high 31 points in a double overtime loss to Buffalo State (98-92).

    ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Southern Vermont senior guard Lance Spratling (Pittsfield, Mass.) topped the Mountaineers in their stellar 3-1 opening week. Spratling tallied double figures in all four contests including 32 points in a 104-92 win over SUNY Cobleskill. The Mountaineers also defeated Norwich (82-77) and Sage (98-69) while falling to Williams (97-65). For the week, he totaled 22.5 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game and 0.5 blocks and steals per game. Spratling also shot 47% from the field (32-for-68) and downtown (8-for-17) and 72% from the line (18-for-25).

Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the NECC's head men’s basketball coaches.
