Player of the Week

 

Garet Griffin (Sr., SS), Mitchell College

Senior Garet Griffin (Moosup, Conn.) batted a team-high .571 with three triples, six RBI and eight runs scored over five games last week., hitting safely in all five games. In a win at Nichols, he went 5-for-6 with a triple, three RBI and five runs scored. He then went 4-for-6 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored in a big win over Western New England. Griffin slugged .857 for the week, and also stole three bases in three attempts.

 

Pitcher of the Week

 

Kevin Banas (So., OF/P), Elms College

Sophomore Kevin Banas (Hatfield, Mass.) threw the second no-hitter in program history, adding six strikeouts in a win over Southern Vermont. He followed that performance by pitching seven scoreless innings in a win at Newbury. On the week, Banas went 2-0, racking up 10 strikeouts over 14.0 innings pitched, all without allowing a run.

 

Rookie of the Week

 

Nathan Ayala (Fr., C), Elms College

Freshman Nathan Ayala (Springfield, Mass.) proved to be clutch for the Blazers, hitting two extra-inning walk off hits as Elms went 4-2 in NECC play on the week. First, he knocked in the winning run with a single in the eighth to push the Blazers to a 2-1 victory over Southern Vermont. Ayala then won another game in the same fashion, as Elms knocked off Newbury 3-2 in the eighth.
