    The 2012 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Year Alex Chetelat will play in the 19th annual Old Time Baseball Game held on at St. Peter's Field in Cambridge, Mass. on Monday August 13th at 7:00 p.m. Becoming the second player from Farmington, Conn. to play in the game, he will don the 1932 uniform of the legendary New York Yankee Hall of Fame first baseman, the "Iron Man," Lou Gehrig on Monday night August 13th at 7:00 p.m.

    Senior pitcher/first baseman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) was selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Game on June 4th at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. at 7:00 p.m. The park is the home to the Lowell Spinners, a Single A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

    Newbury College senior right-hander Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) was selected to the 2012 All-New England Division III Third Team, which was released this morning by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA). One of 51 student-athletes from across New England, the power pitcher became the first player in Nighthawk baseball history to be named to the regional team.

  • Daniel Webster, Newbury Rally Late To Pick Up Wins In NECC Tourney Openers

    Top-seed Daniel Webster opened the NECC Championship tournament with a late eighth-inning rally to top fourth-seeded Elms, 8-7 while third-seeded Newbury broke a 6-6 tie with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning and held on for an 8-6 victory over second-seeded Becker Friday at Harvey Woods Field. The wins set up an Eagles-Nighthawks matchup scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in the winners bracket, while Elms and Becker play an elimination game at 10:00 a.m. The winner of Elms-Becker and the loser of Daniel Webster-Newbury will face off in a second elimination game at 4:00 p.m.

    Southern Vermont College has recently announced the hiring of their new head baseball coach, Dave Gage. Gage takes over after serving as the team’s pitching coach in 2012 in which the Mountaineers finished 9-31 overall and 5-13 in the New England Collegiate Conference.

Senior Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.), who picked up his sixth win of the season, in game two, went two-for-five at the plate while driving in three RBIs and scoring three runs to help the Nighthawks take the season series against the Hawks for the first inning since the start of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).

    Both higher seeded teams were upset on Friday on the first day of play at the 2011 New England Collegiate Conference Baseball Championship. Fourth-seeded Southern Vermont College upended top-seeded Mitchell College by a 6-2 final in the first game while third-seeded Daniel Webster College topped second-seeded Becker College by a 9-2 final in the nightcap. Southern Vermont (17-20 overall) and Daniel Webster (20-13 overall) will face each other for a spot in the finals on Saturday at 1 p.m. Mitchell (19-9-1 overall) and Becker (22-10) will meet in Saturday’s first game at 10 a.m. The double-elimination tournament will feature three games on Saturday before the title round on Sunday.
