ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Regis College Pride lead the NECC in Championship Cup Standings for the women, while a strong winter helps the Southern Vermont College Mountaineers secure the top spot for the men.
The Pride finished the 2016-17 fall and winter seasons with five out of a possible six NECC Women’s Titles, totaling a .922 winning percentage. Regis secured four NECC titles in the fall, winning in cross country, field hockey, tennis, and volleyball. The Pride continued their impressive 2016-17 year remaining unbeaten in NECC play for both the regular season and tournament crown in basketball.
On the men’s side the Mountaineers took the top spot in the NECC basketball regular season, before earning runner-up honors in the tournament. This along with a top finish in the cross country championship has earned SVC a .744 winning percentage going into the spring seasons.
Finishing second on the women’s side was Elms College (.778) who took the final NECC women’s fall title. The Blazers broke Lesley’s streak of four straight championships in Women’s Soccer. Elms finished as the runner up in the NECC Tournament for both field hockey and basketball, while also finishing the regular seasons with a share of each second place spot.
Falling to second on the men’s side was Regis College after a sixth place regular season finish in basketball and a first round loss in the tournament. The Pride landed second due in large part to two runner-up finishes in the fall in cross country and soccer.
Lesley takes third place in the standings for both the men and women at the end of the winter seasons. The Lynx finished second in women’s soccer and tennis, while adding a third place finish in cross country. The Lesley men finished third in the regular season and tournament for basketball to elevate themselves in the standings.
