The 218th and final all-time men?s lacrosse contest at Daniel Webster College will be played for all the marbles come Saturday afternoon.
Backed by another unconscious goalkeeping effort from senior James Bushey (Hamden, Conn.), who stopped nine shots for his first career shutout, the second-seeded Eagles whitewashed third-seeded Becker, 6-0 in the semifinal round of the 2017 New England Collegiate Conference championship tournament Wednesday before 75 patrons at misty Eagle Field.
The second to final all-time meeting between Daniel Webster and Rivier in athletic competition was a memorable one Monday afternoon, decided in the top of the ninth with Rivier stranding the tying run at third as the Eagles escaped with a 10-9 victory at Harvey Woods Field.
The Daniel Webster men?s lacrosse program will play at least one more time on its home field, and this time it will be ? for the first time in program history ? a home playoff contest. Backed by a stingy team defense and terrific goalkeeping from senior James Bushey (Hamden, Conn.), the Eagles shut down Becker, 7-1 Saturday in the NECC and regular season finale for both clubs. The teams will tangle again on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m in the NECC semifinals.
Host Daniel Webster gave Mitchell fits throughout the afternoon, climbing out of a 5-1 first half hole to eventually take a 7-6 lead before the Mariners came back to win 10-8 in a NECC matchup Saturday at Eagle Field. Madeline Roulier notched three goals to reach 60 for her career and added an assist for the Eagles.
Sydney Delforte (Groton, Mass.) scored four goals and Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, Mass.) added a two goals and an assist to move into sole possession of second place on the all-time Daniel Webster women?s lacrosse points list as the Eagles topped Dean, 8-3 Thursday.
Tre Mason notched six goals and moved into 10th place all-time on the DWC career points list with his 85th, as the Eagles bested Wheelock, 14-3 Wednesday. DWC now prepares for its final ever regular season home game as they face Becker Saturday with a chance to clinch a home playoff game next week.
