2017 NECC Cross Country Championship Preview

The 2017 NECC Cross Country Championship will take place on Saturday, October 28 at Stanley Park, in Westfield, Mass, hosted by Newbury College. The men’s race will start at 1:30 pm, followed by the women’s race at 2:30 pm.

In the men’s race, Southern Vermont will look for its fourth straight Championship title. The Mountaineers are led by senior Marc Brandmeyer, who is the reigning three-time NECC Runner of the Year. Last year’s Rookie of the Year honoree, Davante Smith, will also look to make an impact for Southern Vermont.

The only returning 2016 First Team All-Conference member outside of Southern Vermont, is David Still of Mitchell College, who will look to lead his team over Southern Vermont.

Dean, Elms, Lesley, Newbury and Wheelock will also battle for the title on Saturday.

The women’s side is wide open, with Southern Vermont, Elms and Lesley all returning members of the 2016 First Team All-Conference team. Southern Vermont had a second place finish in 2016, with school record score of 49, and will look to Annika Kristiansen and Isabella Poulos to lead their team to victory.

Elms will look for Sarah Tatgenhorst to make an impact, while Lesley’s Amy Bouchard returns after a top-7 finish in 2016.

Dean, Mitchell, Newbury and Wheelock will also run for the top spot on Saturday.
