The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) is the recipient of the May NCAA Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative. The Diversity Spotlight Initiative recognizes and promotes outstanding diversity development projects, programming and initiatives occurring on Division III campuses and in conference offices.
In early April, Becker College hosted “Navigating and Empowering through Collegiate Careers” for 30 students from conference member institutions. This event was a two-day program for female and ethnic minority student-athletes seeking to pursue a career in collegiate athletics. The focus of the weekend was on both personal and professional development.
The goal of the conference, run by NECC senior woman administrators, was to give student-athletes an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities in college athletics. Julie Muller, senior associate with the 3foldgroup and former NAC Commissioner, served as the emcee for the weekend. Throughout the weekend, student-athletes attended sessions from athletics professionals in New England. The students were able to learn about various areas within athletics, while also learning how to network. The session topics included the History of the NCAA, Resume and Cover Letter 101, DiSC assessment, panels of speakers from differ athletics areas and Candid Conversations sponsored by the Women’s Sports Foundation.
