West Boylston, Mass.-- Four NECC institutions have completed their first day of competition in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Golf Championship. Elms (331), Mitchell (334), Dean (354) and Eastern Nazarene (381) sit in fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth place, respectively.
Mitchell's Nick Knisel (Weatogue, Conn./Simsbury), shot a two-over par 74 and is two shots off the lead. The round, which featured four birdies, was the lowest of his collegiate career, as well as the lowest ever by a Mitchell golfer in a conference tournament setting.
Host Springfield College is leading, as the Pride combined to shoot a 300 on Saturday and has a six-stroke lead on Westfield State, which is in second with a 307. Salem State sits in third with a 309, followed by Worcester State (328) in fourth. MCLA (366) is sitting in the eighth spot.
The second round begins tomorrow, October 6 at 10:30 AM. The leaders tee off at 12:40 PM.
