The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) is exploring expansion opportunities of the league’s membership to include the addition of affiliate or core members. The NECC’s Presidents Council would consider both private and public institutions as future members.
The mission of the NECC is to provide for athletic competition among institutions that share similar academic aspirations and are committed to the importance of the total educational experience for students engaged in sports. Intercollegiate athletics programs are an integral part of the life of member institutions and complement their educational objectives. Each institution provides a comprehensive, broad-based athletics program, available to all students.
The purpose of this exploration is to provide more playing and championship opportunities for the NECC membership and student-athletes. The league currently sponsors 16 sports and supports eight core members and 12 affiliate members. NECC Championship sports include; Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Men’s & Women’s Cross Country, Field Hockey, Men’s & Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Golf, Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse, Baseball, Softball and Men’s & Women’s Track & Field.
In addition to championship experiences the NECC is also committed to professional development workshops, community service initiatives, an engaged Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and also funds annual student-athlete attendance to the NCAA Convention.
“The NECC is excited to offer this opportunity to explore new membership opportunities. I applaud the NECC Presidents for their vision and am excited to see what this brings for the current membership,” stated NECC Commissioner Katie Boldvich. “Ultimately, this will create a positive experience for all of our core members and student-athletes.”
Established in 2007, the NECC is a NCAA Division III Conference with core and affiliate members that span the northeast from Maine to New York. The NECC comprises independent institutions whose student bodies are similar in academic achievement and whose missions and curricula are similar in educational growth of its student body. The member institutions share an educational culture that seeks to foster academic excellence.
The eight core members of the NECC are Bay Path University, Becker College, Dean College, Eastern Nazarene College, Elms College, Lesley University, Mitchell College and New England College.
